We need to know what is really going on around us if we want to help in the most effective ways.  Do we know very much about our own members, about the community that surrounds the church?  A good demographic study from census statistics can help us.   The city government usually has marketing data and other facts they use in city planning.   Some cities have neighborhood divisions that would love to help a church that is active in it’s own community.
    You need data.   Do we know how many widows are in our congregation, who they are, and what their needs are?  Are there any single parent families in the church, do they have any special needs?  How are we dealing with the disabled?  We need good information and we ought to be asking these kinds of questions.
