God has given
His church gifts. These gifts
help us function as a body. The gift
of mercy is a wonderful gift and most of our Deacons should have it,
but not necessarily all of them.
Someone might have the gift of administration, but not
mercy. All effective committees of
mercy or boards of Deacons need good administration. Let administrators administrate, but
sometimes you have to protect the poor from direct contact with them.

|
Deacons and mercy committees need
leadership, someone who keeps the vision up front, who inspires and
motivates, who knows how to make decisions and, hopefully, the correct
decisions.

The gift of encouragement is so
needed in the life of poor people, or the sick, or someone suffering from a
disaster. Mercy can sometimes be
nothing more than a personal visit that lets someone know people care.

The gift of helps is invaluable in
a church. People who just do the
things to help others, or the church organization. These are the “doers” and we need to set
them free to do things. Tell them
what to do, set the standards, and let them do it. They are often unnoticed, so praise them
and let their efforts be used as an example to others.

The gift of discernment is very
important, especially to anyone who does intake, or interviews strangers
asking for help. Look for this gift
in your potential officers.
